the one about badrul preparing, cooking, eating and cleaning: times ten...

bubur kacang hijau with durian...

actually i'm too tired... but if i don't do it now, i will put it off until, hhmmm... forever kot... so nak taknak, i better update malam *or is it pagi already?* nih jugak... a couple of weeks back, i have this stupid idea in my head... okay, lets start from the beginning... everyday i bangun awal but usually after subuh i will go back to sleep since i have nothing else to do *so now you know why i didn't pick up your calls before 11.00am* and my system will only start fully functional lepas pukul 11.30pagi... i remember years ago masa i kerja kat advertising agency, i cooked breakfast and sell it to the staff... it started off with my friends from the same agency and soon after that to the client in the next building... bermula dengan 15 packets until it reached 70 to 80 packets a day... i stopped after three months sebab tak cukup tidur dan rehat... bangun pukul 4 pagi untuk masak then lepas tuh sambung kerja sampai lewat petang... pergi pasar pulak lepas tuh and the routine pusing balik...

but now since i tak buat apa-apa in the morning i rasa macam nak buat balik masak breakfast untuk jual... lepas fikir macam-macam cara including pada siapa i nak market kan the breakfast, i decided to start with the people yang i dah kenal dulu and yang dah pernah merasa my cooking... siapa lagi kalau tak those yang kerja kat astro... so, today, sunday, i decided to do some food testing to choose makanan yang paling sedap dan sesuai untuk breakfast... shonny, hafiz, jolyn and bashir will become my food tester and critics... on saturday i pergi pasar to shop... macam-macam i beli... behoon, mee, kuey teow, daging, ayam, udang dan macam-macamlah... i picked and choose everything carefully... quality is the most important thing for me... dari pasar besar ke pasar borong... nak meniaga nih pun kena tengok harga jugak and kalau i nak buat betul-betul, the taste and the quality mesti sampai to a certain standard...

at 1.30pm i mulakan preparation... tension jugak sebab i took out my camera tapi sebab at that time i sibuk fikir pasal ingredients and other stuff, i lupa pulak nak ambik gambar... anyway, my first dish was black pepper beef kueyteow with ginger and spring onion... i received high marks on the taste but not so much on the presentation... the reason being there was no 'exciting' color to it... there was some concerned about packing the kueyteow that has gravy in it... i received 8.5/10 for taste and 7/10 for presentation...

next dish was siam fried behoon with shredded chicken and shrimp... they seem to love it! the presentation received 9/10 and i received perfect 10 for taste! this is definitely going to be one of the breakfast menus... jolyn requested some accompaniment to go with it so i decided to make sambal udang kering... well, i might change it to sambal ikan bilis depending on which one cost cheaper... muhahaha...

the next dish was fried macaroni with chicken in spicy tomato sauce... they all love it but the problem was, they were not a macaroni fans! susah jugak kan kalau customer memang tak minat dengan makanan tuh, macam mana nak jual... i'm trying to find something yang susah nak carik atau nak dapat but at the same time kalau makanan tuh something yang diaorang tak minat, i don't think it will be a hit... the macaroni received a 7.5/10 for presentation and taste! mungkin kalau jual kat mat saleh laku kot...

then i cooked fried yellow noodle with chicken and dried shrimp... well, what do you know... i received 10/10 for presentation and taste! hhhhhmmmmm...diaorang nih easily amused lah! maybe next time i kena carik food critics yang tough sikit... muhahaha... actually, not really! i'm glad that i choose them sebab every details pun diaorang ambik kira... what kind of vegetables i used, the amount of chillies, sweet, sour, pedas, masam, masin semua ada... bashir wrote "for a mee goreng, ianya sedap!" hhmmmm... he should go out more! jolyn wrote "yummy!" yup, it was a great compliment from a corporate communication senior manager of a satellite tv that wrote 10 pages of proposal or whatever everyday! hafiz and shonny?!? lets not go there!!!

lepas tuh i tried to do something different sikit... well, something yang maybe for us malay yang not really use to it... dried chicken curry noodles with black sauce... i should have stick to my plan... which is i who decide what to cook for them, but instead i asked what type of noodles they want... padan muka sendiri... hafiz and bashir wants behoon, jolyn wants kueyteow and shonny wants all behoon, yellow noodle and kueyteow in one bowl... so instead of buat sekali gus, i have to do one by one! you have to understand one thing, up to this stage, i was doing everything on my own, preparing, cooking and cleaning... dried chicken curry noodles was a hit too... i received 8.5/10 for presentation and taste! not bad!

while preparing for the dried chicken curry, i thought of throwing in some dish untuk makan later... so i prepared beef stew... well, beef stew nih i selalu masak dulu-dulu masa remaja... muhahaha... taklah, tapi dulu i memang suka masak beef stew so takda yang surprising apa-apa pun... anyway, lepas this stage, bashir helped to do the cleaning... thank you... at least i ada some breaks in between... so apa lagih, online lah pergi facebook... muhahaha... sempat jugak fluffy race dua tiga round...

then reza, his wife and their newborn daughter drop by... comelnya puteri aida!!! since diaorang belum dinner lagih, i decided to continue with my cooking so i prepared fried rice with ginger chicken and dried chillies! i honestly love this dish... kalau i masak sorang-sorang, i boleh makan tambah beberapa kali... maybe because i love rice kot... muhahaha... tapi the review yang i dapat not so good... only 8.5/10 for presentation and taste... still tak boleh beat behoon goreng and mee goreng! apalah diaorang nih...

my plan is to cook breakfast three times a week, every tuesday, wednesday and thursday... so i just need three breakfast dishes to cook... earlier on friday, i've already cooked fried loh see fun for the whole group and they have decided that it will be in the menu... jolyn has promise to order 10 packs every week! since i've already had three menus to cook, i decided to stop cooking for the day... but noooooooo! you think they let me?!? bashir decided that he wants some dessert and nicely 'ordered' me to cook bread pudding... so i told him to go and buy bread, milk and sultanas... i thought that after makan so kenyang already dia malas nak pergi beli, but noooooooo!!! hafiz decided to go out and buy... bagus kan ada kawan-kawan best macam nih... muhahahhaa...

well apparently at the shop, hafiz had his own agenda... he thought that since i was in the cooking mood and mode, he wants me to cook bubur kacang hijau with durian... so bila dia balik, dia bawak sama empat biji durian, gula melaka and kacang hijau... so i had to make two desserts... let me tell you, i tak pernah masak bread pudding or bubur kacang hijau in my life *i think!* in fact, bila i masak bread pudding tuh, i was having this mental picture on the menu from the cooking show called chef at home that i watched last friday... i pun terkejut jugak sebab tak sangka giler that i can make bread pudding... walaupun recipe tuh salah sikit *instead of using full cream milk, i used condense milk* but it turn out really okay... in fact, i received 9/10 for my bread pudding though it was not in the breakfast menu... muhahahaa...

and the bubur kacang hijau with durian! well, i have to say this... i'm very proud of myself too! mula-mula tuh panic jugak sebab i really tak tau macam mana nak masak... but one thing when it comes to cooking, i really do trust my instinct... to the extend that i remember to include the daun pandan and santan... and guess what? my bubur kacang hijau with durian received a full mark! 10/10! first timer tau!!! hhmmmm... maybe i should start jual bubur kacang pulak... hhhmmmm...

so all in all, i cooked 10 items in the duration of 8 hours... black pepper beef kueyteow with ginger and spring onion, siam fried behoon with shredded chicken and shrimp, fried macaroni with chicken in spicy tomato sauce, fried yellow noodle with chicken and dried shrimp, dried chicken curry noodles with black sauce, fried rice with ginger chicken and dried chillies, dried shrimp sambal, beef stew, bread pudding and bubur kacang hijau with durian... anyway, i managed to take picture for three items... and the only presentable one was bubur kacang hijau, which i purposely *with the energy that i had left* carefully took time to decorate... muahaha... itu pun sebab i was really impressed with myself... boleh!!!
